You can now explore the top 10 designs from the contest at our “Emerging Architects Redesign Outdoor Urban Life” Exhibition, running throughout the London Design Festival. The exhibition showcases creative visions for sustainable high-density developments, with a focus on reimagining outdoor spaces at height, such as balconies and terraces. Join us for the awards evening, where we’ll crown the winning design, and enjoy a chance to network with industry professionals.

Peoples Choice Award
Due to popular demand, we’re excited to introduce our new People’s Choice Award. Attendees of the exhibition can now cast their votes for the design they believe best represents innovative outdoor urban living. Your input is vital in helping us crown the People’s Choice winner. Voting is open until 22nd September, so make sure to have your say and help celebrate outstanding design.
Judging Panel
Our esteemed judging panel for the Urban Balcony Design Contest includes Laura Stephenson, Director at Allford Hall Monaghan Morris, known for her expertise in transformative architecture; Kathryn Tombling, Principal and Head of Housing at BDP, renowned for her innovative approach to urban design; and Bidisha Sinha, Associate Director at Zaha Hadid Architects, celebrated for her visionary work in high-profile projects. Their collective experience and insights promise to bring a high level of rigor and creativity to the judging process.

Contest Overview
The competition aims to address the challenges of urban living by encouraging creative, eco-friendly designs that integrate green spaces into high-rise environments. Participants are asked to reimagine balconies and terraces as integral parts of high-density urban settings, using cutting-edge materials and sustainable design principles. Esteemed judges, including Laura Stephenson, Director at Allford Hall Monaghan Morris, and Kathryn Tombling, Architect Principal at BDP, will select the 10 top designs which will make up our “Emerging Architects Redesign Outdoor Urban Life” Exhibition which will be open throughout London Design Festival. The winner will receive the top prize of £2,000 and has the chance to present their design at the awards evening in front of top London architecture firms and design experts.
